1. When will Brighton host "Field Days?"
We will be hosting "Field Days" for our 75th anniversary celebration in 2005.
2. I'd like to donate (equipment/property or funds) to the Fire Company - who do I contact?
The Fire Company President - For contact information - Navigate to Contacts, then select President.
3. Should I place "TOT Finder" window decals in my child's bedroom window??
The Brighton Fire Company DOES NOT encourage or participate in the Tot Finder, Invalid Assist, or other similar programs utilizing decals on doors or windows. The Fire Company does not recommend these programs for the following reasons: 1. Fire safety decal programs provide participants with a false sense of security. 2- Firefighters are trained to make a thorough and systematic search for potential victims inside a burning building. Firefighters expose themselves to additional risks when entering a building at a marked window. In many of our inspections, rooms that have been marked with the "Tot Finder" decal are utilized for different purposes other than the decal intended. 4 - The decal informs would-be burglars or other intruders that the room is occupied (possibly) by a defenseless child or adult and encourages entry. To protect families from the devastating effects of fire, the Brighton Fire Company recommends the installation of smoke detectors. A smoke detector should be installed on each level of the home and preferably one in each bedroom Most fire deaths occur during the sleeping hours, between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 in the morning. Smoke detectors provide the early warning needed for the family to escape safely. A practiced (EDITH) fire escape plan will enable the family to exit the home in a quick and efficient manner. Smoke detectors, a practiced escape plan, good fire prevention habits and common sense will enhance any fire safety program in the home.
4. How often should smoke dectectors be replaced? How about the batteries??
Every 10 years or sooner for the dectector and every year for the batteries. Smoke dectectors should be tested every month.
5. What should I do if my Carbon Monoxide detector alarm sounds and has a yellow/red light?
Call 911 immediately and advise dispatch that your Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector has activated and have ALL occupants promptly leave the premises. Young children and the elderly are especiialy susceptible to CO poisioning. Carbon Monoxide is a very dangerous gas - you can't see it, smell it, taste it or feel it. Many folks make the mistake of waiting for emergency response indoors. Please wait for the Fire Department outdoors.
